The Summit Social | Issue 9
Canadian winters are dull and boring, but your salon interiors don’t have to be. For salon guests and stylists alike, walking into a welcoming and inspiring space can evoke feelings of relaxation, happiness and creativity. In a competitive industry where salon owners are looking to inspire their teams, attract new clientele and retain existing guests, having a strong brand identity and unique design element is growing more important every day. Each of these components play a large role, not only in the art of hairdressing and service offerings, but in the composition of the salon itself. For our second ever look book edition, we took a peek inside some cool salons, to scope out interior designs that made us want to pack our bags and overstay our welcome. From Alice and Wonderland inspired, mid-century modern spaces, and zen-filled vibes with Mediterranean accents, to retro glamour and all things comfortable luxury, we cover it all here. Read on for some bangin’ salon inspo brought to you by Jeremy and Chelsea from Nineteen Seventy-Seven, Marcella and Fran from Lineage House, Nadia and Christine from Life and Color Salon, and Kristie from Luxe Beauty Company.
Thank you for making this issue possible, babes.

Owners | Jeremy & Chelsea Hoffart
Describe your salon style.
Bright, open and teeming with people, personality and plants!
What inspired this vibe?
All things Mid-Century Modern… think of California in the 1970’s.
How did you come up with the name Nineteen Seventy-Seven?
1977 was the year our salon owner, Jeremy, was born. It also happens to be the year Star Wars was born and Elvis passed away. Jeremy previously owned another salon called Salon Fli, and anyone who’s known him for a period of time would recognize the presence Elvis carried through his previous salon spaces. So in honor of Elvis and Salon Fli, naming the new salon Nineteen Seventy-Seven was a way for Jeremy to pay homage to his roots.
If your salon was a song, what would it be?
Rebel Rebel by David Bowie.

Describe your salon style.
Zen with Mediterranean and Moroccan accents.
What inspired this vibe?
The inspiration for this vibe was definitely our Italian background. We have visited Italy to see family and were both so inspired by the feeling we got there. We wanted to bring something fresh to Winnipeg, in terms of style, and felt that this Mediterranean vibe was what people would really be able to relax in. When searching for inspiration, our eyes were constantly drawn to Moroccan style, so we wanted to add a touch of Middle Eastern accents.
How did you come up with the name Lineage House?
By truly focusing on what was important to us; our father has been a hairstylist for 40 years and we wanted to pay tribute to that. We believe this is where we got our natural born ability and passion for hair. We added the word ‘house’ instead of ‘salon’ because we knew we wanted it to be more than just a hair salon. We wanted to be a home for other events like meditation nights, styling classes, pop up shops etc. We focus on all around wellness of the body and mind and we have an in-house naturopathic doctor, to tie into our all around wellness journey for clients.
If your salon space was a song, what would it be?
Basically any Gypsy Kings song. We play them on the regular and this always puts the salon vibe exactly where we want it to be.
Life and Colour Salon
Vancouver

Owners | Nadia Domany @hairbynadiadomany + Christine LaBlanc @styledbychristineleblanc
Describe your salon style.
Modern, bright and open with touches of retro-glamour.
What inspired this vibe?
Contemporary 70’s glam rock. We wanted to create a timeless space that was modern and clean, while also including soft touches that are welcoming to our clients.
How did you come up with the name Life and Colour?
The name Life and Colour was an existing name when we purchased the business. The two words strongly connected to the brand we were building, so we kept the name and made it our own!
If your salon space was a song, what would it be?
I’m coming out by Diana Ross.
LUXE Beauty Company

Describe your salon style.
I would describe our style as comfortable yet luxurious, trendy and simplistic. Our space is bright, open and truly emulates happy, positive and uplifting vibes!
What inspired this vibe?
Comfortable luxury is my jam! I wanted to build a big, beautiful, bright space where people would love to come to work and spend their days. I envisioned a salon that made you feel like you were in a big city, where our guests would get their hair done, and then hang out and spend time in. A lot of people say that they would love to live in our salon! I also dreamed of creating a space where we could come together for education to learn, grow, connect and build community; that part really came to life this year!
How did you come up with the name LUXE?
The name LUXE was not my first choice. I won’t tell you the first one (because LUXE is way better) but it all worked out! Our first choice was rejected when we did our name search, and I was running short on time. I knew that I wanted to have the beauty co. attached, because I envisioned being a destination for the best high end haircare, advice and service. To me being a beauty company means so much more than just giving haircuts, or employing people who cut hair. It’s a lifestyle - it’s all about genuine, authentic beauty care. Anyways… I frantically asked my friends for suggestions and three of them mentioned LUXE in their brainstorming chatter. It was perfect…and it stuck!
If your salon space was a song, what would it be?
Our team agreed on the song Happy by Pharell Williams! Its upbeat, fun and makes you want to dance and shake your booty a little. It’s just one of those feel-good tunes - the song sounds like how fresh hair feels!
Frida Beauty Bar
Calgary
Salon | @fridabeautybar

Owner | Kimber Leavitt @beautyinjector
Describe your salon style.
Modern Alice in Wonderland.
What inspired this vibe?
I wanted something that didn’t entirely make sense and was a little risky as far as design. I wanted something that stood out and I did that by incorporating multiple patterns. I was pretty nervous the patterns wouldn’t all match, but that was kind of the point. I was in Milan during fashion week, immediately prior to designing the space, and was very inspired by the high end stores there such as Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana and Valentino.
How did you come up with the name Frida Beauty Bar?
I named our beauty bar Frida because I wanted a space that was named after an unconventional female icon. I fell in love with Frida Kahlo because she endorsed beauty but did it in an inclusive way. She encouraged everyone to be themselves and shared that beauty is unique; that’s the culture we want at Frida.
